Opus Bistro @ Bangsar

Yesterday was our second annivessary (dating, not marriage :p), and we had dinner at this cosy little Italian restaurant.

The past two years certainly brings with it a few trials and tribulations, but all in all it’s been quite a wonderful journey.

The smartest choice that I had made is to have KampungBoy by my side. :)

The menu is simple yet classy.

Gasped! We never knew that Opus Bistro was so famous. Another smart choice that I made.

They have this five layer wine rack with varieties of red/white wine. Too bad that I have wine allergy and would probably ended up with rashes over my neck and back. Kampungboy can't take any alcoholic drinks either. So we had the same drink on our special day :D. Sparking Beverage - Aranciata Orange (200ml) RM 10

Complimentary baguette with olive oil.

Spaghetti alla Opus (RM 28) is one of their signature dish, served with mixed seafood with fresh tomato and chardonnay sauce. I have no idea what is chardonnay sauce but gosh it's just so nice that I lick my spoon.

Needless to say, al-dente spaghetti is essential. I just hate it when some Italian place serving their customers with soggy pasta.

Note: Chardonnay is a green-skinned grape variety used to make a white varietal wine.

Baked Duck Breast with Caramelized Balsamic Sauce, served with angel hair pasta and sun dried tomato. (RM 42) The duck breast is so tender and juicy, the caramelized balsamic sauce is sweet and it doesn't have the sourish taste of vinegar.

..Chef special tiramisu (RM14) as dessert. Sad to say it's nothing fantastic. The sponge fingers doesn't taste right so I just scope out all the mascarpone. Maybe we should try their freshly baked cake next time.

Finally a picture of us..I want to clarify something here: Actually my face is smaller than KampungBoy's. It's just that I was nearer to the camera lens. You know girls (or maybe just me), they are extremely particular on the matter of chubby or slim face.

This is the kind of map that make your life easier! We are not familiar with Bangsar area, but the map just make our search for Opus Bistro fuss free.

We'll be coming back for sure! The atmosphere, food and staff are great! Price is quite reasonable too! Hehehe most importantly Kampungboy promised that he'll bring me back for foie gras and caviar when his wallet is loaded.

The Ship @ Jalan Bkt Bintang

In conjunction with our seniors' convocation day and Munlin's 21st birthday, we headed to The Ship Jalan Bukit Bintang for a scrumptious dinner. Since our seniors grabbed some well paid job upon their graduation, they have no choice but to foot the bill~!!! Thanksss~!!!

The Ship is a western thematic restaurant started up by Mr. Foo Hee Hoon and his wife together serve up a wide variety of western food. The place resembles a an hull of a ship and the serving staff are dressed like the crews in maritime uniform.

Their food choice is extensive, ranging from appetizer, soup/chowder, seafood, steak, poultry, stone grill, desserts to chinese cuisine. It took us more than half an hour to make up our mind on what to order.

The salad bowl that comes with the my order - Flinstone

Garlic bread ordered seperately to heal the growling stomach

Flinstone (fillet steaks and tiger prawns) and Charboiled Rib Eye Steak. The steaks are done perfectly, resulting in a tender and succulent state.

Seafood au gratin (Mixed seafood baked with cheese and bechamel wine sauce) tastes bland. The seafood platter is nothing fantastic either.

Their sizzling item must be very popular, judging by almost every table had the sizzling platter. Sizzling chicken fillet and sizzling neptune combo.

The crews set aside their work and sang Munlin a birthday song. Look at the birthday girl, looking all radiant and pretty~!!

I love this picture! It's a typical grad day picture right? Congrats to our seniors and wish you guys all the best for your future undertaking!

Not to forget Kampungboy's fourth elder sister, Congrats to Xin Tong on yoru graduation~! No, they did not set the dress code as pink, but coincidently everyone dressed in pink and even the flower blossomed in pink!

Nasi Bawang with Rendang Ayam

Kampungboy has been pestering me for letting him to have nasi lemak since his recovery. I say I'll cook him one to stop him from buying from the road side stall nearby.

"Once bitten twice shy", this doesn't apply to him at all! SO he give me that doubtful eye like "Are you sure that you can cook nasi lemak?". I'll prove him wrong then! Not only nasi lemak, i came out with Rendang Chicken too!

I wanted to try out the Tumeric Chicken Recipe from Malaysia Best, but the accountant inside Kgboy said that it is just not "cost effective" to do so, you use whole pot of oil just to deep fried 2 drumsticks and 1 chicken wings. True indeed, so we opt for chicken rendang instead.

Rendang Chicken (for 2 person)
Recipe by Amy Beh

Combine chicken, ground spices and fresh milk in an earthen pot and bring to a low boil. After it has boiled, lower the heat and simmer until the gravy turns thick. Keep stirring to prevent sticking.

Add kerisik and mix well. Cook until meat is tender, gravy is thick and oil rises to the top. Add sliced leaves and seasoning.

Ikan Bilis Rangup (Crunchy anchovies)
Preheat the oven for 5 minutes. Place the cleaned and dry ikan bilis on the tray and sprinkle with some cooking oil. Leave it for 5 to 10 minutes.

Nasi Bawang (onion rice)
Heat the oil in a flat pan, add in chopped onions and fry them till the colour turned golden brown. Then pour in the grains and stir for another 5 minutes. Cook the grain with appropriate amount of water in a rice cooker.

Verdict: Delicious!! The gravy is just nice, not too thick or diluted and it goes well with our fragrant nasi bawang. Will I make a second attempt on this? No thanks. I would rather buy it from my favourite nasi lemak stall because all the preparations are hectic and time consuming.

Restoran Makanan Laut Lau Heong @ Bandar Baru Sentul

This place is truly a hidden gem located in a quite residential area at Bandar Sentul Baru! KambungBoy's second elder sister and her hubby brought us here last weekend. They used to work around this area and had been drop by this place regularly before they shifted to Kedah.

It's not hard to notice what is their signature or famous dish. Patrons from different tables ordered the same dish basically. However, getting here is a big headache for us! Thanks to the advanced search engine today, I found a blog which stated the direction to this place precisely!

How to get there?

Take the Pahang roundabout, go towards Setapak. You will see Tawakal Hospital on your left. Go straight. Keep left. On your left, you will pass by a Chinese School, Mc Donald’s and a Shell petrol Station. Immediately after the McD's, look out for a sign board – Jalan Sentul. Turn left into Jalan Sentul till you reach a traffic light. You will see a mosque on your left. At the traffic lights, go straight for about 20 seconds, look out for the signboard – JALAN SEHALA, turn into the road, find parking, either near the dumpster or further up.

Thanks Gina for your direction!

This is heavenly~! The sze chuan sauce is aromatic, with the right touch of spiciness. The sting ray must be fresh to be steamed in this way.

Siong Tong LaLa (Clam Soup with Shao Xing Wine) - The freshness of clams brings out the sweetness of the soup. They added the right amount of shao xing wine, shredded ginger and wolf berry. I can't stop sipping the soup!

Sizzling Calamaris served on a hot plate. Again the sauce is the soul of the dish. I'm not sure what kind of sauce is this. The texture is like curry but the taste are totally different from curry. Excellent Dish!

Another signature dish would be Nam Yu Fried Chicken (Fried Chicken with Fermented Bean Curd). Fermented Bean Curd is an ACQUIRED TASTE, either you love it or you hate it. I think most Chinese would love it if they used to take it during childhood. FU Yu Yao Mak is equally good with the aromatic (or pungent) smell?

Highly recommended for epicurians like us! Total bill came about RM 80 for 6 people so the price is pretty reasonable. With the direction given, you have no excuse for not going to Lau Heong to try out their excellent dish.

Chatz Brasserie @ Grand Plaza Park Royal KL

Here's another buffet food post with pictures doing the talking. First impression: Chatz Brasserie has a chic and modern environment with open kitchen concept. Their staff are extremely friendly and helpful in getting us drinks and clearing our table.

The food choice is extensive to suit every tastebud, let it be Asian or Western food. Two thumbs up for their fresh raw seafood and Chatz Char Kuey Teow that was cooked upon request.

(Pictures from http://kualalumpur.parkroyalhotels.com/s14204/index.shtml)

This picture is for you, Cheesie! This is the first time for Jakun like us to came upon these extraordinary looking cheese.

I remembered vividly for having a blue cheese thin crusted pizza and it was nice. So I tried a slice or two of blue cheese here. A voice inside my heart was saying "To spill or not to spill?" Guess what I did at last? I swallowed it with a lot of pink guava juice but the smell still lingers on my mouth. O_o

An aphrodisiac is an agent which acts on the mind and causes the arousal of the mood of sexual desire, it can be found in nuts or wine, but not OYSTER! So guys please don't simply take oyster just because of ahem some reason.

People with chronic liver disease, impaired immune systems or cancer should avoid eating raw oysters too. Kampung will never know the taste of raw oyster because he can't take raw food! Hahahah
Sashimis and Cooked Ham

Malaysian Cuisine and Soba DIY

Ice Cream BAR

Fruits and Salads Bar and freshly squeezed fruit juice as thirst quenchers.

The desserts are nicely presented but sometimes look can be deceiving. Hehe! If I were to choose the nice one, it would be chocolate mousse and mango pudding.

Overall Rating:
Nice environment and excellent service. Food has the best presentation but food quality might varies.

Opening hours:

Daily - 6:30 am to 12:00 midnight
Lunch - 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm
Dinner - 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm

Food Blogger Gets Food Poisoning

Kampungboy and Citygal will be taking a short break from blogging (Just a couple of days) because doctor from SJMC had just diagnoses Kampungboy with Food Poisoning.

The symptoms were obvious: vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and fever. He had been vomitting and running to the toilets numerous time since yesterday morning. So yesterday night I drove him to SJMC all the way from Cyberjaya. It was my first time driving in KL!! Fortunately Kampungboy has a strong heart for all the sudden brakes and turnings.

No! It wasn't my fault! We haven't been cooking for quite some time. Blame it to the contaminated outside food! Guess my immune system is just stronger than him and I'm so glad that I'm in a good condition to take good care of him.

So, with exams around the corner and the healthy one needs to take good care of the sick one, we'll be off for a few days ok? Don't worry as Kampungboy is slowly recovering now with lil bit of stomach upset, weight loss and nothing else.

Hakka Village @ Seri Kembangan

iniSeri Kembangan is truly a hidden gem with fantistic Chinese Food like hakka yong tau foo, paper wrap chicken, pan mee, spicy soup, to name a few! I was exposed to this place during my University Days in Cyberjaya, very lucky indeed!
Hakka cuisine is characterized by its saltiness (from the use of soy and preserved vegetables), fattiness (associated with its many pork dishes), and rich aromas (from the use of spices like star anise and five-spice and pungent ingredients like black beans and fermented bean curd).
(Extracted from Eating Asia's A Big Feed Under The Big Tree).
Other than Hakka Lui Cha, Hakka Yong Tao Fu, Hakka Stewed Pork with Black Fungus( Cha Yuk), my knowings on Hakka cuisine is only remain still. Hakka Village is one of the famous eateries in SK other than Restoran Leong Yah Indah. Their crispy skin pork trotters is a MUST ORDER item but we are not having it this time, worrying that it would scared the koreans off.

Group Picture - Strictly for Girls

Needless to say more, their food is fantastic without burning a hole in your pocket. The total bill came about RM 150 for 14 person. Even the Koreans can't stop telling us that Chinese Food in Malaysia is Delicious! I will definitely go back if we are dining as group because we can explore on more dishes with more people.

Next stop, Putrajaya...

Awwww..I miss you gals..Anio~!

Portuguese Grill Fish @ Oasis Food Court Mid Valley Megamall

We'd heard about this particular stall for quite a time. S0 when we were scratching our head on what's for lunch, Portuguese Grill Fish popped up in my head.

It's located inside Oasis Food Court which we choose to avoid usually. The smell will retain on our hair and clothing after some dining inside this place. Haha but for the sake of nice grill fish, we wouldn't mind.

You can choose from a wide array of seafood, e.g. sting ray, squid, prawns and clams. It comes with a plate of white rice to tone down the spiciness.

Verdict: We're Loving It! The spicy sauce is always the essence of a plate of nice grill seafood and it's delicious! Do drop by this place the next time you are at mid valley (If the strong smell doesn't pull you back)

There's another famous portuguese grilled fish stall at Petaling Street but we'd never been there ourselves. Refer to eatin out's and wantan production's review.

A Map Just for You

Credits to Kgboy for coming out with this map which cover places that we drop by quite often at Seri Kembangan.
You can spot us at Maxim Dim Sum early in the Sunday morning and how can we forget King's Confectionary Portugese Egg Tart after some scrumptious dim sum? When we are dining out as a big gang, Hakka Village would be the first option because everyone is drooling over their chef recommended tofu, crispy skin pork trotters and salad chicken. Not to forget Haitong or Stone steamboat when there's some celebration or gathering going on or when we feel like gulping down a whole mountain of food.
